Industrial Design

Industrial design is the legal protection of the appearance of a product or a part of a product, resulting from features such as lines, colours, shape, texture and material. Industrial design registration protects this appearance against imitation and grants the owner an exclusive right of use.

Industrial design protects the appearance of a product, not its function. The lines of a piece of furniture, the form of a packaging, the surface pattern of a device or the motif of a textile product all fall within the scope of industrial design registration. Provided that your design is new and distinctive, registration prevents others from using the same or a similar appearance without permission.

Industrial design and design registration are often confused, which is why it is important to state the distinction clearly. In legislation and practice, both refer to the protection of a product's external appearance and rest on the same protective basis. At Yedi Kıta Patent, we carry out this process under a single heading, with the strongest protection strategy suited to the nature and sector of your product. For designs that carry artistic originality beyond aesthetic appearance, we also evaluate copyright protection as a complementary measure where appropriate.

With our 20 years of experience, we manage the entire process from pre-application novelty research to post-registration monitoring, and through our worldwide network of representatives we protect your designs abroad as well. We provide legal follow-up against imitation products and support you in preserving your distinctiveness in the market and the commercial value of your products.
